mobile web access on my laptop (while my wife drives of course) in the car is really amazing. I just wish it was less expensive!
@shudson71 But of course! I’m even friends with a few Huskers too! :-)

@GingerTPLC I did watch the game. [grin] The cats did well but looked a bit sloppy. Missed tackles, several stumbles early on… it was a W!
Wireless connectivity at KSU stadium is VERY bad during a game. They need supplementary cell towers brought in for games.
First home KSU game is over for ’08. Weather was perfect. And we won! A perfect fall Saturday night.
Hurricane season is a great time to live in Oklahoma or Kansas
Enjoying the KSU - North Texas football game, esp now that we moved over to the sombra side! :-)
I’ve got the basic framework for a Moodle course setup for our 5th grade sunday school class this year. Moodle is amazing.
It is a beautiful fall Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas. Perfect weather for our outing to Aggieville for coffee and the farmer’s market

@lnitsche Interesting. I wonder if we’ll see car stereos you can directly add your USB aircard to?
@MikeGras Yes it is definitely amazing! I wish the 3G network was everywhere, but EDGE is decent, particularly for email.
It is so amazing to be online in the car on my laptop. (I’m not driving of course.) Sharing the connection with my son— mobile wifi hotspot
“we had 1 parent make their child lug every textbook home for weeks. That was a wonderful learning experience.” [for the child]
Seeing this makes me very motivated to complete the curriculum DVD I am making and remix lesson plans fir our museum field trips….
What if the student needs more feedback than will fit in the small box provided on the agenda?
How much time and energy is spent each day just copying down the homework assignments?
Why is the homework not just published to the web? Is copying down the homework each day a best-practices learning task?
So the only example of tech use we have seen tonight is using a symposium as an overhead projector. I am not impressed. Unfortunately some R
I so want to teach in an immersed laptop environment… Maybe I should have taught at Crescent. Maybe I can adjunct at OC next spring?
My question: when do our children get to touch this fancy technology to create, communicate and collaborate?
A symposium is being used. Some parents think this is cool. Reality check: this is being used just like an overhead projector
This is the only use of technology we have seen from our teachers… And we should buy more SMART boards why?!?!?
Now showing a MS Office TIFF image of the agenda used in class
Question I have “Can my child bring his laptop to school and use the school wireless network?”
By February the kids will need to be able to respond to all the 4 types of writing prompts
“we will be sending home writing prompts directly tied to our state test”
I so dearly want my kids to attend a school where teachers embrace blogging
“District policy is to require 20 min of reading per night. We really encourage them to read fiction”
“we want kids to get lots of practice at math.” (yes but shouldn’t the focus be learning and comprehension instead?)
“you can expect to see homework in math at least 90 percent of the time”
@bcrosby Uhhh, yes…. DEFINITELY! Especially if you want the kids creating media with iLife. Go with Macbooks or iBooks for sure.
@vbek you are most welcome! :-)
@nzchrissy Thailand is not on my travel agenda for the coming year, but maybe Learning 2.0 will come to Bangkok next year! I’d love to come!
@barbs1 Thanks so much! can you please tweet me the link? Words cannot express how much I’m looking forward to New Zealand in February!

@Dowbiggin Wish I could come! With my new job my travel is MUCH more limited than in the past.
@gardenglen Good for you. Putting HW online is a good first step. Publishing to the web is a step in the right direction, just keep going!
@chocxtc I agree these would be good questions for the board. Hopefully that chance will come at some point. But they may not have answers..
@ehelfant thanks for that link Elizabeth! I wish you could come share some PD sessions here in Oklahoma! :-)
@todbaker that string of tweets was a confusing mix of quotes from the teachers and my thoughts. I tried to put their words in quotations
@ijohnpederson thanks for the words of encouragement. I need them. I shall be strong and steadfast…
@lnitsche absolutely. All educational constituents need to be on board for school change. this is not just an issue for the teachers.
@KarenJan Yes absolutely. It’s not just kids with formal IEPs that would benefit from all the HW being posted online. Many would
@TAG156 I hear you on the no time to post homework issue. But the teacher could have a rotating class scribe post the HW each day…
@TeachaKidd Good suggestion, yes we are definitely going to encourage both kids to share their writing our our family blog!
@Dowbiggin I’m afraid so. Perhaps we can visit someday. Or videoconference. I’ve been to San Jose in 2005 for ADE camp. Alex would love it!
@Dowbiggin Please send it! I’d love to see it, even if it makes me exceptionally jealous. :-) firstname.lastname@example.org
I asked if our kids will be able to blog so we can see their work and comment on it. Answer: No. We can see their work at school in folders.
@garystager I have mixed feelings for sure. Should I tweet this? I am not sure. I hope it is ok to.
The kids should know cursive now. It is amazing how many of them can’t read cursive.
“you can email us when the website is up and running”
Your 5th graders have at least 3 teachers.
It is a very interesting cultural experince to be a parent of kids in a very affluent community” Lots of assumptions made here.
“I am not very good talking in front of parents”
“if you are absent, check with a friend to get the notes”
Lots of emphasis on recording reading minutes each day. When do we emphasize the ideas we are reading about?
The assumption this year in 5th grade is: more departmentalization is better. I disagree.
What ways are our kids able to experience the curriculum content through video? (my question I am not asking during the presentation)
“kids don’t want to write things” (5th grade social studies teacher)
“we want kids to learn to love social studies” - “in 5th grade kids are expected to assimilate information”
At our Elem school back to school nite - PTA fundrsising goal: buy more SMART boards and pay for artists in residence

Tomorrow’s workshop on Google Notebook for teachers is cancelled. Teachers have to barcode their new textbooks…
