@glovely my mobile bandwidth / BYOB solutions have saved my life as a presenter >1 time! I don’t leave home w/out it now

via HootSuite in reply to glovely

@dmantz7 yes, absolutely - that is the site we need to build on storychasers.tv - @GoogleLitTrips would love that I think!

via HootSuite in reply to dmantz7

@khrista_lou hopefully through the @SOSMarch & other initiatives we can end high stakes accountability insanity in the USA

via HootSuite in reply to khrista_lou

RT @khrista_lou I spent 9 instructional days on CRT testing this school year. Next year looks 2Beven more, due to new special ed acc. rules

via HootSuite

From a participant: Teachers & kids are too busy in Oklahoma doing testing to invite business folks into the classroom to share

via HootSuite

Donna Hill just shared a great story as a career counselor, who she guided to USAFA & is a fighter pilot today

via HootSuite

@TParks I am hesitant to put so much faith in however - we need to put our faith & $$$ in great teachers, not more testing

via HootSuite in reply to TParks

RT @RSHartley Principal just forwarded e-mail from @JanetBarresi, who watched our Gotta Keep Learning video & really liked it! 733 views now

via HootSuite

The Oklahoma Career Keys program is 1 initiative focusing on workforce needs http://ow.ly/1tslJN

via HootSuite

@RSHartley outstanding, woo hoo for Steed Elementary and MId-Del Public Schools in Oklahoma!

via HootSuite in reply to RSHartley

Another big key folks are talking about here: Finding ways to get YOUNGER kids excited about different workforce tracks

via HootSuite

Enlisting business & industry to understand how these workforce tools can make a difference for them is a TOP need!

via HootSuite

@TParks Would you agree your administrative leadership/vision is key for your ability to teach with and be a champion?

via HootSuite in reply to TParks

So an easy win for this is: Ask students to serve as @storychasers interviewing business sector folks about workforce issues

via HootSuite

The education needs are not just with students: Many employers in OK don’t know about workforce resources in place!

via HootSuite

I’m hearing this: #1 issue that needs to be addressed is engaging employers with students & applicants

via HootSuite

@TParks Yes, absolutely! But that advocacy for falls on deaf ears when all the principal & teachers hear is: Pass those min std tests!

via HootSuite in reply to TParks

Lots of discussion in our breakout session about industry certifications & training. Sounds like we need digital portfolios!

via HootSuite

On my mind (but I’m not saying it out loud): High Stakes Tests do NOT encourage a 21st Century Skill Focus http://ow.ly/59CnZ

via HootSuite

I’m wondering how http://www.okcareerplann… compares to what Kansas is doing with the Kansas Career Pipeline?

via HootSuite

that should have been “a key topic”…

via HootSuite

I key topic many people are discussing today is: How can students / applicants / employees ‘show what they know?’

via HootSuite

@glovely have you tried any BYOB solutions / options? I cringe at how expensive most are :-(

via HootSuite in reply to glovely

“Bringing the real world” into our classrooms should absolutely be a key goal & assessment metric in our K12 schools today

via HootSuite

earlier this morning (before I arrived) @JanetBarresi asked attendees how we can get more business people into our classrooms

via HootSuite

today’s meeting reinforces my long term ‘hunch’ that @storychasers needs to launch a careers/jobs storytelling initiative

via HootSuite

@shareski congrats - sounds like a good foundation for some meaningful learning :-)

via HootSuite in reply to shareski

neiffer something i wish: instead of always looking for an alternative to powerpoint, make your powerpoints meaningful and suck less

I think we need greater transparency for all the tax incentives / tax breaks granted to businesses in our state

via HootSuite

@dmantz7 that would be a GREAT idea. We need to support an interactive site where ideas for @storychasers assignments are shared

via HootSuite in reply to dmantz7

@glovely I use my smartphone as a personal hotspot - If I couldn’t do that, I’d go with a Mifi. I’ve used a USB wifi device in the past

via HootSuite in reply to glovely

I think digital handouts should be provided for every public meeting held today, either exclusively or at least as an option

Apparently Dave Lopez, our OK Sec of Commerce, worked for a long time for SBC/AT&T. Interesting.

via HootSuite

No one here that I’ve heard (and I WAS late, so maybe I missed it) has even mentioned high stakes testing as a BIG problem

via HootSuite

I’m wondering what the backstory is to how Phyllis Hudecki got appointed as Oklahoma Sec of Education?
