@Cincereb Thanks so much for posting your iPad app review of @spreaker to YouTube wfryer.me/38d You inspired me! :-)

@rockourworld Digital connections which can follow a F2F event like that can truly be life changing. I want more teachers to experience that

via HootSuite in reply to rockourworld

@rockourworld let me know if I can help if you decide to republish them at some point. I’d recommend a self-hosted WordPress site :-)

via HootSuite in reply to rockourworld

@rockourworld I think I heard you share those at the 2005 ADE Institute. It’s amazing what ripple effects that event had on my life :-)

via HootSuite in reply to rockourworld

@rockourworld no, but my grandfather was & his mic is in our living room right now. I’ve thought about it… podcasting is my HAM outlet :-)

via HootSuite in reply to rockourworld

@rockourworld I know it’s not high priority, but someday I encourage you to republish them! We need more “Mother’s Day podcasts” like those

via HootSuite in reply to rockourworld

@rockourworld they were some of the most inspirational student podcasts I ever heard!

via HootSuite in reply to rockourworld

It is VERY sad both hosting sites for “Mother’s Day Podcasts 2009” (MobileMe & Edublogs.tv) are now DEAD wfryer.me/38c :-(

via HootSuite

@rockourworld Congrats on becoming a HAM! woo hoo!

via web in reply to rockourworld

@rockourworld Did you find a new web home for your amazing “Mother’s Day Podcasts” after MobileMe died?

via HootSuite

@ntoft do you see you & your students ever going back to audio, or will you stick with video for the reasons you highlighted in that post?

via HootSuite

@ntoft thanks so much for sharing that post - yes, that’s what I was hoping for, a bit of insight into your learning journey with the shows

via HootSuite

@tbbrwn I agree with that to an extent. We certainly have too many learning opportunities which are wasted by worksheets :-(

via HootSuite in reply to tbbrwn

MT @matthewboushey What should be the consequence/result of students plagiarizing? My department does a 0% no redo option.

via HootSuite

@matthewboushey I would think there might be graduated consequences by grade level & by the severity of the offense. It’s a good question.

via HootSuite in reply to matthewboushey

@James409Jason thanks for facilitating! Sorry I had to duck out early :-)

via TweetChat in reply to James409Jason

Gotta bail out… parent chauffeur time… :-(

via TweetChat

@tbbrwn come on, do you really think we NEVER need or want HW in any grade or context? No work outside of class EVER?

via TweetChat in reply to tbbrwn

@MrsBeck25 we definitely need to prepare students for rigorous expectations, but w reasonable HW amounts

via TweetChat in reply to MrsBeck25

@Ranalions I’d like to see some research data on how many teachers now are doing projects w rubrics in Oklahoma

via TweetChat

@Ranalions yes, I don’t doubt most in formal teacher-ed programs know about rubrics. Many teachers are alt certified now tho

via TweetChat in reply to Ranalions

@wmchamberlain yes, I agree - that’s why projects involving students recording their ideas (like narrated art) can be so valuable

via TweetChat in reply to wmchamberlain

@Ranalions that is GREAT! Unfortunately we have MANY teachers who aren’t using or familiar with rubrics now

via TweetChat in reply to Ranalions

@ChrisParadise yes I agree. Pedagogy & a vision for transformative learning which empowers students goes beyond HW & assessments

via TweetChat in reply to ChrisParadise

A3 Authentic assessment often uses rubrics. It’s often messy. It’s differentiated & not standardized.

via TweetChat

@charlotteshare4 so say the testing corporations & their minions. I think we still have time to opt out of PARC & should

via TweetChat in reply to charlotteshare4

A3 authentic assessment involves students - students create new knowledge products representing their understanding

via TweetChat

@MrsBeck25 that highlights the need for campus/building conversations about HW & what is reasonable

via TweetChat in reply to MrsBeck25

A2 I’ve seen mostly large school districts overuse mandated formative assessments/benchmarks. Less common in smaller schools

via TweetChat

@wmchamberlain if we’re truly interested in students mastering skills, then some homework certainly could be optional

via TweetChat in reply to wmchamberlain

@wmchamberlain It’s about student choice. Not everyone wants to take an online class. Not everyone wants a flipped one.

via TweetChat in reply to wmchamberlain

A2 by “common formative assessments” are we talking about district-mandated benchmark tests?

via TweetChat

@stumpteacher so do you think outside reading is totally bad for all K-12 settings?

via TweetChat in reply to stumpteacher

@stumpteacher ah yes, we hear that far too often. “we’re getting them ready for college…”

via TweetChat in reply to stumpteacher

@stumpteacher …and that is certainly not the right way to use HW :-(

via TweetChat in reply to stumpteacher

A1 @MrsBeck25 @MrsMurrayCMS True flipped learning should be an option kids can choose, but not 1 that is mandated

via TweetChat in reply to MrsBeck25

A1 we have plenty of teachers (sadly) at in @OKCPS who seem to think assigning LOADS of HW = rigor / beneficial learning

via TweetChat

A1 @stumpteacher I’m not an advocate for the “mile wide, inch deep” curriculum which is sometimes common :-(

via TweetChat in reply to stumpteacher

A1 @stumpteacher We need to define some context for thinking about HW. The answer is certainly different for 1st grade vs 12th

via TweetChat in reply to stumpteacher

A1 @wmchamberlain asking learners to read/watch/create/share outside of class shouldn’t be automatically considered “punishment”

via TweetChat in reply to wmchamberlain

A1 The best HW, like the best classwork, involves students

via TweetChat

A1 @thnorfar but that’s the key, right? All school work should require authentic work that can’t be googled or easily plagiarized

via TweetChat in reply to thnorfar

A1 Work outside of class is essential for learning, there simply isn’t enough time during class for all that is needed

via TweetChat

A1 I think the question “When is HW still helpful & beneficial” might be better…

via TweetChat

A1 technically speaking “valid” & “reliable” are all contextual, that question can’t be answered with a generalization
