@tchmathculture yes phones do work well for times like these :-)

@James409Jason We talked some about amplifying & empowering T voice tonight, but we also need to w Ss

via web

@James409Jason thanks for moderating tonight :-) I would love to find ways to better amplify student work / digital media.

via web

@jmsprincipal thanks for sharing that post. Please add your Twitter link as a sidebar widget in your site :-)

@thnorfar it all goes back to “Nation at Risk” - same themes, same drumbeat, but different players - more corporations now.

via HootSuite in reply to thnorfar

A8 We should probably read “Finnish Lessons” by @pasi_sahlberg & figure out how we can create a non-partisan agenda for

via Twubs

@thnorfar ironically tho, many folks quote stats out of context which paint the picture “we’ve already lost our standing”

via Twubs in reply to thnorfar

@coach57 I agree more instructional coaching is needed & a key part of our path forward

via Twubs in reply to coach57

@mrsregier we need to empower more Ts to discover their voices & speak together w/ power. We must force the public to notice

via Twubs

@mrsregier ah, but that is where social media is a game changer. There is a reason Twitter is blocked in Iran & China

via Twubs in reply to mrsregier

@emersonirish we can do those things, but also more. Look at @ChiPubSchools - We need our Ts to be more united & vocal too

via Twubs in reply to emersonirish

A8 I think demographics & predictable T retirements are the #1 factor. Ongoing war on Ts has hart & accelerated it tho

via Twubs

@jcbjr @James409Jason We have A-F b/c Barresi, Hudecki, & Lopez signed w/ @JebBush & @DigLearningNow we need an alt agenda

via Twubs in reply to jcbjr

@James409Jason It’s not there, of course, because A-F isn’t setup to help schools. It’s 100% about painting all schools as failing

via Twubs in reply to James409Jason

@shawnhime But as long as a political agenda drives the agenda, “validity” won’t be valued or even considered (sadly)

via Twubs

A7 Does anyone know a member of our Oklahoma legislature who categorically opposes A-F report cards now?

via Twubs

A7 We would never give a church an A-F report card. Why would we give 1 to schools? Answer: Leadership wants all Ts seen as failures

via Twubs

A7 We need to speak with a united voice on this: A-F report cards for schools are a destructive, harmful thing. They must end.

via Twubs

@kellianglley I agree draconian content filtering remains a huge problem in many districts. We need to amplify these divides more

via Twubs in reply to kellianglley

A6 2nd huge problem in is we’re not building statewide consensus for 1:1 learning devices for everyone. & not for testing!

via Twubs

A6 The biggest problem in is that the reason for tech in schools has mistakenly been made online testing. That’s wrong!

via Twubs

@James409Jason that’s what I suspect, who’s documented that? Those financial actions need to be amplified so they can change

via HootSuite in reply to James409Jason

@thnorfar yes- that’s why this is a MORAL issue. Leaders must help change the focus. Nat’l dialog paints all as failures

via HootSuite in reply to thnorfar

“The bigger the lie, the more people will believe it.” For too long our leaders have said, “Test prep is all that matters in Edu.”

via Twubs

A5 Goodness this question again shows how we, as a state, are chasing test performance as an endgame. This needs to change…

via Twubs

@James409Jason speaking of the oil field, I’m wondering why we haven’t seen any effects of the oil boom in public edu funding?!

via Twubs in reply to James409Jason

@JonnyCurriculum yes, that would be gr8! Please consider setting up a YouTube channel for them :-)

via Twubs in reply to JonnyCurriculum

amajames1212 A4 I agree because this process is set up 4 Ts & Ss to fail. W next yr being a new test and unclear expectations, its a crap shoot.

via HootSuite (retweeted on 8:32 PM, Sep 15th, 2013 via web)

@JonnyCurriculum Are you all posting the videos publicly or privately?

via Twubs in reply to JonnyCurriculum

@shawnhime that is gr8 to hear - are they public or private? Has someone made a linked list?

via Twubs in reply to shawnhime

@emersonirish sjparkokcps I heard @burnshargis exhort @OKCPS to focus on the ACT a few years ago at “State of the Schools”

via Twubs

@James409Jason A4 Of course I disagree, that’s a silly statement. Many new skills Ss & Ts need to show aren’t reflected on std tests

via Twubs in reply to James409Jason

A3 where are we posting videos today in that show student problem solving in action?

via Twubs

A3 We need a statewide conversation on the importance of interactive digital learning tools for ALL students, not just a few.

via Twubs

@jmsprincipal Amen. We definitely need to be focusing on the importance of professional relationships in Edu MUCH more

via Twubs in reply to jmsprincipal

A3 I don’t think our approach in the classroom should be reactionary to the SDE or testing. Good learning activities are the key

via Twubs

A3 Irrespective of faces in power & standards de jure, we should focus on engaging lessons requiring Ss to develop literacy skills

via Twubs

@jpk38 @thnorfar That’s why focusing on Ss digital portfolios & authentic work is key! It’s not fake!

via Twubs in reply to jpk38

A3 As an @OKCPS parent, I guarantee you 100% I don’t want test prep/success to be my kids’ Ts #1 focus in the classroom

via Twubs

A3 @James409Jason Maybe a better question should be, how do we make sure test performance is NOT our focus?!

via Twubs in reply to James409Jason

A2 so there seems to be agreement that celebrating SS success should be a common focus. Who’s doing this now w/ social media?

via Twubs

@James409Jason so maybe we need an student learning showcase? Like showcase.yukonps.com

via Twubs in reply to James409Jason

A2 We need to help other teachers overcome FEARS & become bolder advocates with combined voices

via Twubs

@James409Jason well, top-down imposed changes are never as powerful or long lasting as grassroots ones…

via Twubs in reply to James409Jason

@grendelrick I agree that’s a great idea. How can we do that?

via Twubs in reply to grendelrick

A2: We need to empower more teachers to speak up & share stories from their classrooms

via Twubs

James409Jason Q2: With facing all these issues, what strategies can educators use to continue to serve students in the most effective manner?

via TweetDeck (retweeted on 8:10 PM, Sep 15th, 2013 via web)

@BrandiEDU @coach57 @khrista_lou @TulsaAreaPLAC So how do we formulate a coherent counter agenda to the status quo?

via Twubs in reply to BrandiEDU

James409Jason A1 I think the public perception that “public schools are failing” is our biggest issue. My school is not failing!

via TweetDeck (retweeted on 8:08 PM, Sep 15th, 2013 via web)

@TulsaAreaPLAC yes, we need to define our educational reform agenda, not adopt someone else’s!

via Twubs

@shawnhime and that’s a great reason/purpose to embrace social media: to tell our stories!

via Twubs

A1: Keeping focused on doing what is best for kids and their learning
