@shawnhime you have any links to recommend so I can learn more about the status of our state online charter school?

@SporLin see this Nov 2011 post for more: “How to Make Your High School Students Fail Online Courses” ow.ly/268rjZ

@John_Bailey …and all stakeholders (Ts, Ss, parents, admins, boards) see the purpose of school to be testing rather than learning :-(

via HootSuite in reply to John_Bailey

@John_Bailey the effect of these policies is to further erode public confidence in public schools & teachers. The curriculum is narrowed…

via HootSuite in reply to John_Bailey

@John_Bailey sounds noble but it’s not reality. 70% of K12 teachers in Florida teach in a grade level and/or content area w/o tests

@SporLin part of the story of K12 online learning is corporations have drafted legislation states like ours have passed

@SporLin Another reason why schools, school admins, Ts & Ss need 2 use social media to “tell our stories of gr8 learning” each week!

via HootSuite in reply to SporLin

@SporLin the goal of corporate is to paint all public schools & teachers as failures, regardless of actual circumstances :-(

via HootSuite in reply to SporLin

@SporLin Agreed. But the changes advanced by our state politicians are truly not motivated by a desire to help kids or schools :-(

via HootSuite in reply to SporLin

@tsbray yep, it’s what we need to do too… but not just give the cost savings back to the corporations / big oil companies.

@shawnhime MT has been thru 3 iterations of state online K12 school before getting it right at last w/ @MontDigAcad @neiffer can share more

via HootSuite in reply to shawnhime

A8 Re-write our online learning laws for K-12 so we are more like MT, where the state online school is a partner not a competitor

via Twubs

A8 I would consolidate administration for many of our smaller Oklahoma school districts, not closing schools but sharing Supts

via Twubs

A8 I would restructure school finance in our state so it is equal for all Ss regardless of neighborhood or local property taxes

via Twubs

A8 I would redirect funds previously used for high stakes testing & start a statewide 1:1 learning program

via Twubs

A8 I would end high stakes testing in Oklahoma, & encourage districts to start utilizing digital portfolios for Ss assessment

@James409Jason We need more districts to setup “Learning Showcase” websites like @YukonDistrict goo.gl/U6RaSn

via Twubs

@James409Jason Amen, we absolutely need more focus on celebrating learning.

via Twubs

A5 I think as Oklahoma Ts we need 2 focus on doing what is right for kids every day, not changing course b/c of @oksde PR statements

via Twubs

@dorman340 @TakeShelterOK Is it true many communities don’t want shelters b/c of insurance costs?

via Twubs

@dorman340 I think the @TakeShelterOK discussion should involve more than schools.

via Twubs

@dorman340 so glad you’re following discussions tonight! Welcome! The @TakeShelterOK petition might be a good future topic!
