@stephen_tpk We probably would all benefit from more Kiwi perspectives on social media, however :-)

@stephen_tpk In this case I’m thinking of helping other education leaders in our state understand the power & value of local networking :-)

.@drjohnthompson yes indeed! And help us focus on the importance as well as relevance of digital literacy in our “new” standards

@JMSPrincipal @grendelrick @coach57 We’ve got to END our myopic focus on test scores as the sole metric of excellence in our schools

edgeblogger Also flat since 2000, pre-NCLB RT @grendelrick @coach57 ACT scores have remained flat since passage of ACE. pic.twitter.com/4RE0YGNBiN

We need to offer Twitter 101 sessions at every Oklahoma school administrator event, encourage more participation in social media

via Twubs

Thanks everyone for a lively chat tonight - hope to see you Sat Oct 4 for in OKC (free PD!) playdate.edcampokc.org

Wow. Crazy environment for chat tonight - in a BIG tstorm up in KS, power out, had 2 use cellular MiWi & laptop for connectivity :-)

We need focused attention on removing the horizontal drilling tax exemption that’s costing us millions each year.

@MrsHime @OSSBAoklahoma what is the best link for “The Vision Project” to share with others (besides the Vimeo video?)

via Twubs in reply to MrsHime

@watersenglish @coach57 we need more Oklahoma students to participate in these conversations! Way to go @Jaydenmills14 :-)

dougeb00 Higher standards don’t make up for Ss that are behind and not prepared to start with. growth model most fair way to move forward

@jasonnelsonok 1 reason PASS isn’t college/career ready is b/c they don’t address digital literacy. At all.

grendelrick @coach57 This is the most disappointing part of 3399 to me. ACT matters. EOIs don’t. Prepare students for what matters.

A6 I don’t know enough about the “Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarships unconstitutional” situation to write a cogent answer

via Twubs

edgeblogger A5: Since ACT is the test that matters most to Ss, and it is tied to CCSS, any new standards will be very similar, e.g NGSS for Sci.

via Echofon (retweeted on 8:43 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

edgeblogger A5: my dream would be to develop standards to truly reflect 21st century knowl. & skills. We are still working in a 20th C mindset.

via Echofon (retweeted on 8:43 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

@JMSPrincipal that is what @burnshargis said at the @OKCPS “State of the Schools” in 2008: Use the ACT as a benchmark like colleges

via Twubs in reply to edgeblogger

kellianglley A5 Must include writing in all content areas

via TweetDeck (retweeted on 8:41 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

A5 New standards should be less like a laundry list & more focused on skills. Show what you know with media. Shorter / more concise

via Twubs

A5 Like CCSS, our new standards absolutely must include digital literacy: representing & communicating ideas with media

via Twubs

mjaydenmills @coach57 We need 2 quit speaking of standards. Ed isn’t like basketball; just because you miss the bucket, doesn’t mean you’re dumb

via Twitter for iPhone (retweeted on 8:38 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

mjaydenmills I’m almost positive some of the the world’s bests would have never measured up to a “standard.” Not everyone learns the same.

kellianglley A4 Ts need to SHARE.Utilize social media to show what the kids CAN do.

via TweetDeck (retweeted on 8:36 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

A4 I think we need an agenda for change in our state which is independent of political parties. Following Finland’s lead

via Twubs

A4 I agree we need to change the narrative: High stakes tests & standards don’t produce great schools or great learning environments

via Twubs

A4 We need a statewide campaign like @NElovesPS nelovesps.org to put the focus on gr8 teaching, learning & engagement!

via Twubs

A4 One way to change the conversation is to encourage more Ts & Ss to show their learning via social media / digital portfolios

via Twubs

.@ChrisParadise @jasonnelsonok @coach57 @shawnhime This fight over NCLB / high stakes testing will only be won if parents care

via Twitter Web Client in reply to ChrisParadise

.@coach57 @jasonnelsonok @shawnhime that might be true, but this is a core issue: Federal overreach into K12 education :-(

via Twitter Web Client in reply to coach57

coach57 We are using students as political pawns. blames Obama for CCSS and it started under Bush.

via TweetDeck (retweeted on 8:23 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

.@grendelrick @PhilBacharach Yikes - that’s a bad recipe if the accountability for our K12 standards is riding on that metric!

via Twitter Web Client in reply to grendelrick

shawnhime @jasonnelsonok The Waiver is not in NCLB. the lack of a waiver sends back to NCLB. if he overreached it was with waivers.

goldcane78 Do Regents plan for careers or just college. Why are they in charge of a students career and what we prepare them to do?

via Twitterfall (retweeted on 8:20 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

@PhilBacharach thanks. Do you know where the remediation rate in our colleges is published & tracked now?

via Twubs in reply to PhilBacharach

A3 The state board of regents should engage not only with @oksde but also with K12 leaders to develop & implement a response plan

via Twubs

.@jasonnelsonok very glad you’re joining our discussion tonight - THANKS

via Twitter Web Client

jasonnelsonok @shawnhime I would like someone to show me in NCLB where Duncan has the authority to deny a waiver over standards. I don’t see it.

via Twitter for iPhone (retweeted on 8:17 PM, Aug 31st, 2014 via Twitter Web Client)

A2 What is our remediation rate now for colleges in Oklahoma? And why are we assuming all students want to or will go to college?

via Twubs

.@Jaydenmills14 glad 2 have you join our chat tonight, Jayden! Thanks for being here & participating! We need more students involved

via Twitter Web Client

@coach57 @shawnhime can you share a link to the OSRHE report you’re referencing please?

via Twubs in reply to coach57

A2 Are any of our state regents on Twitter? It seems to me we need to help them get on if not, & participate in chats like this!

via Twubs

A2 I thought I read we wouldn’t lose federal EDU dollars as a result, but the funds would be “redistributed.” Is that correct?

via Twubs

A2 I honestly don’t know and would love to hear others give insight into this tonight. I’ve heard we’re not losing $$$ statewide

via Twubs

A1 It seems a bit odd that a higher education state group had responsibility for certifying our K12 standards meet C3…

via Twubs

A1 my understanding is we lost the NCLB waiver b/c our state officials didn’t make the case that PASS meets C3 rigor / guidelines

via Twubs

As we get started everyone please mark your calendars for Sat Oct 4th & our 2nd OKC PD event playdate.edcampokc.org
